  • Routine appointments are available morning and afternoon/evening, with a late night on a Tuesday and Thursday. Appointments can arranged via our friendly reception team either by telephone or email.

Regular nurse led consults and clinics are held at the practice, they include targeting specific patients such as:

    • Golden oldies

    • Dental care

    • Stability and motility

    • Feline health

    • New puppy care

A vet is available 24 hours a day for emergency treatment and we pride ourselves on being able to provide an efficient and prompt out of hours service.

  • Please contact us to arrange a repeat prescription for your pet’s medication, please allow at least 24 hours for us to get it ready for you. By law we can only prescribe medications to animals that are ‘under our care’ so your pet will need to have regular checks. The frequency of these checks will vary depending on your pet’s condition and our vets can advise you on that.

  • We offer routine vaccinations for dogs, cats and rabbits. Vaccinations play an important role in protecting your pet against some life-threatening diseases.

We offer vaccinations against the following diseases:

Dogs: Parvovirus, Distemper, Adenovirus, Parainfuenza, Leptospirosis (2 or 4 available), Kennel Cough.

Non-routine vaccines available: Rabies, Herpes, Leishmaniasis.

Rabbits: Myxomatosis and Rabbit Haemorrhagic Disease (RHD) type 1 and 2.

  • There are many parasites that can affect your pet. We are able to offer effective treatment and prevention and can tailor to your pet’s needs. We have a variety of product types available, to help make treatment as hassle free for you as possible. We also offer a delivery service, where treatments arrive at your door.

Fleas: Fleas are a very common problem in pets and can exist all year round. Fleas can cause skin irritation and in some animals this can be quite severe. Fleas breed very rapidly and only 5% of fleas live on your pet, the rest will be in your home. We can advise on the most effective way to treat and prevent flea infestations.

Ticks: Ticks are commonly found on pets that walk in woodland or on moorlands. They can transmit diseases such as Lyme Disease or Borreliosis. You should never ‘pull’ a tick off your pet as there is a high chance you will not fully remove it. We advise using a treatment for tick control can advise on correct, safe removal of ticks.

Mites: The most common mites are the mange mite (fox-mange. scabies), ear mites, cheyletiella and harvest mites. All can cause intense irritation to you pet and some can affect humans too. We can advise you of effective prevention/treatment against mites.

Worms: There are many different worms that can infect your pet. Most commonly we see roundworm (toxocara), tapeworm, and increasingly lungworm. It is important to pick up poo and to treat your pet against worms as they can carry risk of infection to humans and other animals.

For more information on the parasites that can affect your pet, please see our factsheets in the education area of our website.

  • If you would like to take your pet abroad with you, you will need either and AHC (Animal Health Certificate) or an EHC (Export Health Certificate).

An AHC replaces the old ‘Pet Passport’ which are no longer valid for travel from the UK to the EU.

For travel to the EU your pet will need an up-to-date rabies vaccination, a health check and an AHC. We are able to do all of this for your pet. We advise planning ahead, please contact us for more information on getting and AHC.

For travel outside of the EU and for emigration you will need an EHC, the requirements for these vary depending on what country you are going to. For more information on an EHC please get in touch with us.

  • When your pet has to stay in with us, whether as a day patient or longer, we pride ourselves in offering a high standard of inpatient care. Our passionate nursing team ensure your animals receive the best care and attention during their time with us.

We have large walk in kennels with comfortable orthopaedic mattresses for dogs and excellent cat friendly cattery housing with cat ‘castles’ so our feline inpatients have the choice of being on top of, or inside their fortress.

  • We have a modern, comprehensive in-house lab. We are able to run many blood samples with same day results, assisting us in getting rapid diagnosis of certain cases and effective management of chronic conditions.

In addition to comprehensive routine biochemical and haematology, specific tests include: Progesterone, Phenobarbital therapy monitoring, Thyroid, Giardia, Parvo-virus, Feline ProBNP, cPLi (Pancreatitis), FeLV/FIV.

  • Builth Vets has a digital X-Ray machine that takes extremely high quality images aiding in diagnosis of many conditions. We are registered with CHA and are able to take the images and process the paperwork for the BVA Hip/Hip and Elbow Scoring schemes.

We also have a dental X-Ray which aids us in targeted tooth extraction.

In addition to X-Ray we also have a ultrasound scanner which plays an important role in assisting us in diagnosing conditions as well as being able to offer pregnancy diagnosis scans. When performing pregnancy scanning we cannot give accurate numbers on the number of expected offspring, we can differentiate a single Vs multiple pregnancy and assess foetal heart rate. This information assists us to help advise our clients so we can plan appropriately for the birth of the offspring.

  • We perform routine and emergency surgeries. We are also able to offer some more advanced procedures such as: TTA (surgical correction of cruiciate ligament rupture); some fracture repairs; Thyroidectomy; Cherry-eye repair, BOAS surgery.

It can be a worrying time when your pet needs to have an operation. We pride ourselves in offering a high standard of patient care. We have a well equipped theatre, experienced vet and nursing team with excellent patient monitoring equipment for when your pet is under anaesthetic.

  • There are times when a home visit may be preferred for your pet. We pride ourselves in being able to accommodate home visits where appropriate.
